Dot Font
About Dot Font
Dot Font was a collection of short articles written by Barry that featured his unique brand of dot matrix typography. The articles were accompanied by images of the typefaces he had used, which were then compiled into a book called “Dot Font, A Collection of Pixels.” This book is now out of print, but you can still find copies for sale online.

Dot Font is a new way of looking at typography. It is based on the idea that each letter is made up of a series of dots, which can be varied in size and spacing to create different effects. The result is a more playful and organic approach to type design, with an emphasis on individual expression. This font is still in its early stages, but it has already been used to create a wide range of typefaces, from whimsical display fonts to more traditional text faces. As the technique continues to evolve, it is likely that we will see even more innovative and exciting uses for Dot Font in the future.
Barry’s work with dot matrix fonts was groundbreaking because it showed that web fonts could be used for more than just simple blocks of text. With a little creativity, they could be used to create beautiful works of art. Barry’s work inspired a generation of designers and helped pave the way for the web fonts we use today.
In the early days of the internet, there was no such thing as web fonts. That meant that if you wanted your website to look good, you were limited to using the same handful of typefaces that everyone else was using. If you wanted something different, you had to get creative.
One way to add personality to your website was to use images of text instead of actual text. This was pre-CSS, so it required a bit of work on the front end, but it was worth it for the unique look it gave your site. And one of the people who did this better than anyone else was John D. Barry, editor and typographer extraordinaire.
